Teenagers experiment with marijuana. The use of marijuana is significantly increasing especially in the United States. One in ten teens report using marijuana at-least 20 times a month.
Some people feel, everyone is doing it (using marijuana) why not me? And thus, start experimenting this drug which causes good feelings and happiness at that moment and will be in that mood for some time, but there long lasting health effects which they don’t know.
Some teenagers unknowingly get affected with this drug. For instance, they mix it with foods and drinks. Some get even encouraged by their peers, friends to do smoking marijuana. There are a very few teens who report, they have no friends who smoke marijuana.
As per NIDA’s Monitoring the Future study 2011, close to 7.2 percent of those in 8th, 17.6 percent in 10th graders, and 22.6 percent in 12th grade used marijuana in the month before the survey. Use of marijuana declined in closing 1990s up to 2007, with a decrease in year-year use of more than 20 percent in all three grades combined from 2000 to 2007.
It is shocking that, such trend reversed in the second half of 2000. Use of marijuana shown dangerous rising trend in the students of 10 and 12 grade. In 2011, 6.6 percent of 12th students are said to be using marijuana every day, compared to that 5.0 percent in 2006.
Some teenagers will be pressured some times by their friends and some will observe older people in their family abusing it. Some may need marijuana to escape from problems in school and college. Although it will not help them despite throwing them into some other problems including health related problems, arrests, drop outs from school or college, court hearings, fine etc.
