One of the most prestigious awards in the automobile industry were given out recently at the Detroit Auto Show. Ford Motor Company won both the 2010 North American Car and Truck of the Year awards recently.
At the Detroit auto show, the midsize sedan from Ford Fusion Hybrid was rated the top car and Ford’s compact van honored as the truck of the year.
Other finalists for the car award were the Buick LaCrosse and Volkswagen TDI diesel and Golf GTI. The finalists in the truck segment were the Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Transit Connect and Subaru Outback. The vehicles were reviewed based on innovation, design, safety, handling, value and driver satisfaction.
Ford’s last month of 2009 was exceptional. It had a 33 per cent increase in sales, maily due to the strong demand for midsize four wheelers. Ford, for the first time gained U.S. market share for the first time since 1995 by introducing cars like the midsize Fusion.
Hyundai Genesis luxury sedan and the Ford F-150 pickup bagged the top honors last year.
