India has become seventh largest vehicle producing nation in the world. According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers report from the period April 2010 to August 2010, 7,063,063 units were manufactured by Indian Manufacturers and by comparing this with the last year for the same period it was found that there is an increase of 1,727,789 manufacturing units in India.
There is a growth of 33.88 percent and 44.75 percent in both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles respectively. There is a growth of 50.68 percent in multi purpose vehicles and there is increase in passenger cars with 34.32 percent and there is a rise in utility vehicles with 22.56 percent in the passenger vehicle segment.
There is a rise of 27.22 percent and 20.15 percent in two wheeler and three wheeler segments respectively.
There is expectation that India will be seventh largest production country in the world by 2016, but it has crossed the milestone before six years than expected period. There is an expectation that India will be one of the top five vehicle producing countries in the world by 2020.
