Tooth pain may be resulted due to many different dental problems. However, a permanent solution is necessary to treat it. Meanwhile people often go through several home remedies for getting relief from tooth ache. Among those, using clove oil is a perfect solution.
Clove oil is prepared from the buds of clove tree through a process of steam distillation. The major component present in clove oil is eugenol. It has several beneficial properties such as antibacterial, antiseptic, anti-fungal, antiviral, germicidal, etc. It is even a natural pain killer. Hence, clove oil is considered for treating toothache that is caused by any means. Many dentists even prefer a combination of clove oil and zinc oxide as a temporary filling to reduce the tooth pain. In addition to the tooth ache, clove oil is also considered to prevent mouth ulcers and plaque.
However, proper usage of clove oil must be ensured. A diluted form of clove oil is helpful to alleviate the pain. Uptake of an undiluted form rises several issues such as nerve or tissue damage and burning. When consumed in large doses, clove oil causes kidney failure, liver damage, seizures and vomiting. It should not be used by pregnant women, diabetic patients and small children.
It is also good to know how to use clove oil. Clean your mouth properly to remove any trapped food particles. Prepare a mixture of clove oil and olive oil by adding three drops of clove oil to one-fourth tea spoon of olive oil. Soak a cotton plug in the oil mixture and place it near the aching tooth. Hold the cotton between the upper and lower teeth when you have tooth ache in molars or back teeth. Hold it for sometime. The toothache gradually reduces. However, remember that it is a temporary solution and hence, do not neglect to consult a doctor after temporary relief.
