When it comes to work, it becomes very important regarding who is doing what. Work needs to be done according to predetermined set of rules at workplace. People are required to work according to their specialty. Hence, engagement of employees is an art and engaging them suitably leads to lot of work with lot of good quality.

There are people who strive for a quality work and are dedicated towards it. They generally come up with appreciable work. If the work done by such employees is not appreciated and recognized, they may loose interest in work. Performance appraisals keep the employee satisfied and encouraged.

Know your employees and engage accordingly
People across the globes have different skill sets. Similarly, every new employee and the existing employees have certain skill sets. Each of them are really good at somethings, they need to improve when it comes to certain skills and with certain skills, they are very poor. It is responsibility of the HR to examine employees for their skills and interests in order to engage them in suitable work. Every person has some strengths and limitations. They tend to get deviated for certain things and certain things do not bother them. All these contribute to the quality set of an employee.

Knowing all these factors help a HR to employ his employee in the kind of work as per his skill set and qualities. This keeps the zeal alive in the employee to work and keeps up his enthusiasm and interest. This gives work satisfaction to employees. This leads to high quality of output and high productivity also. They hone their skills at work and turn out to be an useful asset to the company.

Performance appraisal leads to work satisfaction and employee retention
There is no scarcity of the people who are willing to work hard. Problems only rises when elements are not there who recognize the hard work and performance and appreciate it. When good quality of work go unnoticed, the employee feels dejected and loses his interest in work. So, it is necessary that performance reviews take place at regular intervals of time and good work is recognized, appreciated and rewarded. This leads to work satisfaction in the employee and keeps the zeal and enthusiasm alive. Such employees remain hardworking and dedicated to the organization for a long time. Additionally, this also serves as an example for other employees who work hard subsequently to achieve similar goals.

So, it is important for a HR to know his employees properly in order to engage them properly and appraise the work of a deserving employee. This leads to a competitive and productive work culture that is highly motivated and committed to the company.

Employees who take drugs or alcohol at workplace becomes a nightmare for the employer, managers and co-workers. Because drug abused employees disturb the morale among the co-workers, there is poor job performance, takes frequent leaves, claims for medical and compensation bills, etc.

Consequences of drug abusing employee at workplace:

Decreased productivity: Employee who uses drugs or consumes alcohol on the job or off the job are more prone for job withdrawal behavior. Like doing non-work related activities, coming late to office and going early, sleeping on the job, taking long lunch breaks, poor decision skills, taking frequent leaves, feeling sick at work place, arguing with co-workers, etc.

For an employer lost productivity (absenteeism + poor work performance) means loss of billions of dollars in business.

How to avoid?
When employer finds an employee using drugs or alcohol at workplace. Based on circumstances and company’s standard disciplinary policies and procedures, the employer can impose a punishment from an verbal reminder to immediate termination of drug abused employee.

Increased healthcare and insurance cost: For the employer, a drug abused employee comes with increased healthcare costs. Drug abused employees are more prone to workplace accidents and absenteeism than other employees. They usually fall ill for which the organixzation has to bare the cost of health and insurance.

How to avoid?

Random drug testing: Employers should conduct drug testing to all the employees at random intervals without any prior notice. This will discourage the employees to take the drugs or alcohol at workplace.

Post-accident drug testing: Employers should conduct drug test on the employee who have undergone accident at workplace. Based on this, employer can know the reason behind the accident.

Engages in risky behavior: Drug abused employees are highly irritable, depressed, ignores safety norms, argues with the co-workers and blames the other co-workers and managers for failures at workplace, brings home problems, sells illicit drugs to the other staff, etc.

How to avoid?
At regular intervals employers should conduct drug testing programs at workplace. This helps in knowing the drug abused employee and can take necessary action on that employee to keep healthy and safe workplace.

Increased absenteeism: Drug abused employees take frequent leaves or stay absent from workplace for a long time. They fail to give convincing explanation for being absent and sometimes lie to their managers or supervisors for the absence.

How to avoid?
Employer should implement strict norms related to taking leaves. Or in case of critical situation, they should give clear explanation with medical prescription and bills.

Facebook is fulfilling its employment requirements by hiring candidates through its own site. The users of Facebook have pretty good chances of getting hired by the company. Recently, Facebook has hired a journalist. Even though Facebook does not have an editorial department, it hired him to share and create content and building audience using the Facebook tools.

To support rapid growth of the company, Facebook hires and employs thousands of new engineers. There are 3000 employees for Facebook currently including 100 in the sales and marketing in New York. There are positions in engineering, business operations, policy and communication for Facebook.

Surveys show that 18% to 63% of employers use social networks to check and search for potential hires. At times a single person may have more than one profile and also there is great probability that with such large number of users on Facebook, there may be many users having the same name. Thus, there is a possibility for employers to view the profile of a wrong candidate.

The post People Getting Hired Through Facebook first appeared on BIG-TOPICS.COM.

Recruitment is a universal thing. There is no other means of selecting the employees for an organization except through this recruiting process. However, every organization has its own strategies in recruiting process and they have to implement their own way in choosing people. Hence, it is clear that each organization has a right to do their own kind of recruitment for the kind of people they are looking for. Also it does not mean that every practice by the organization is good and yields definitely good results. They are few companies which adopt few practices which are not good for them as they result in loosing the potential candidates. One such practice is the slow recruitment process which is in use by many companies, but is found to be ineffective.

Today we are in the fast moving generation and the candidates do not have enough patience to wait for such long days to hear the results of their interview. When they make their mind to switch to a new job or just started their job trails, they never restrict themselves to one company or one interview. They tend to attend a nice number of interviews for different companies and never loose a chance of missing a single opportunity. In a single day they can attend a couple of interviews and the company which soon gets back to the candidate will be given much priority to the candidate. No one has a dream to work for a particular company. They try to compare all the offers in hand and try to choose the best among them. In such scenario if the company finds the candidate to be deserving and if it is the company’s policy to make slow recruiting process, then the chances of loosing such candidates are simply increased by the company itself.

So make sure the candidate is fit for the position and once you are sure on every thing a casual meet with the respective department head to check the compatibility of the candidate with that manager is enough for grabbing him in to the organization.
