Smoking Cigarette, is one of the most common habit many of the people globally have. Its easy availability and less cost made it popular across the world. Starting from the children to older adults many people got addicted to it like anything. Till now smoking is the most abused form of using tobacco and the number of people getting used to this dreadful habit are increasing in number every day. But in Australia the scenario is different, says the latest reports.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, the number of Australians smoking tobacco has decreased, but supplementing this decreased use was the rise in use of illegal drug. They surveyed nearly 26,000 people and found that the proportion of daily tobacco smokers aged over 14 has dropped to 15%. The people aged between 20s to 40s quit smoking since 2007.

They have also conducted a survey on the illicit use and found that the percentage of people who reported using an illicit drug has increased to 14.7% since 2007 till date. Even though the increase is small it includes, cannabis, marijuana, prescription medicines, cocaine and non hallucinogens.

However, there is a decline in the ecstasy use from about 3.5% to 3%. But the alcohol use is still at high risk since one in five people are having more than two standard drinks per day.

Even though the drop in the percentages of people smoking is some what less, there is a rise in the other dreadful substance, drugs. It is not clear whether people are quitting bad things or adopting new bad habits.

The post Control in Smoking Rates, Increase in Drug Abuse : Study first appeared on BIG-TOPICS.COM.

Everyday one or the other story will be in light about the marijuana possession and smuggling. The more the cops are alert, the higher the cases they are able to book everyday. It is shocking to imagine the situation when all the seized pot enters the market and how it will spoil the healths of many people.

Another such incident happened in the San Ysidro border, where the US customs and the Border Protection arrested a 24 year old US citizen and seized 1150 pounds of marijuana which was hidden inside the furniture.

The officials are estimating that the market value of the seized marijuana is nearly $700,000. They also seized the furniture in which the pot was hidden for smuggling which includes a sofa, chair, china cabinet and bedroom furniture in which 126 packets were hidden. The officers also seized the truck which carried all the furniture.

The same day the sailors from the amphibious transport dock ship New Orleans also recovered
bundles of marijuana (nearly 1,800 pounds of marijuana) which is floating on the coast of San Diego. The Coast guards gave a call to the San Diego based ship which was on training exercise, about the smugglers who were dumping bundles overboard. Finally the Mexican navy arrested several men who are involved in this trafficking.

Not only this, there are many cases which are being found every day related to marijuana possession and trafficking. People involve in huge drug rackets intentionally drag many innocent people to sell these drugs, by offering them huge amount of money. Strict laws should be implemented even for small drug possessions, which help in controlling the situation.

The post US Customs Found 1,150 pounds of Marijuana Hidden Inside Furniture first appeared on BIG-TOPICS.COM.

SAMHSA 5 and NIDA 5 drugs are considered as the most frequently abused drugs among different age groups. Hence the drug test kits which are made to detect these five combination became more popular and are also helpful since any person who found abusing has the maximum possibility to take only those 5 drugs. For now let us check some more information about NIDA 5 and SAMSHA 5 panel tests.

NIDA 5 panel Test
National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA), after doing thorough research has finally identified five drugs which are found to be most popularly used and most harmful. Hence 5 panel test kits are designed using this combination of NIDA 5 and are named as NIDA 5 panel test kits. The five harmful substances of NIDA 5 include Cannabinoids, Cocaine, Amphetamines, Opiates and Phencyclidine or PCP. These test kits contain immunoassays which are helpful to detect the cannabies and Amphetamines in the sample. For cocaine, the metabolite called benzoylecgonine is regularly screened in the urine. Same procedures are applied to determine methamphetamine, opiates and PCP in the urine.

SAHMSA 5 panel test
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), also identifies five drugs which are most popularly used and named them as SAMSHA 5. A test kit is hence designed using the five identified drugs and is called as SAMHSA 5 panel test. The five identified drugs of SAMSHA include Marijuana or THC, Cocaine, Opiates, Amphetamines or Methamphetamines and Phencyclidine or PCP. The presence of Opiates in urine analysis samples include substances such as Vicodin and hydrocodone, codeine, hydromorphone, oxymorphones such as Numorphan as well as oxycodones like Percodan as well as Morphine traces.

All these test processes consider urine as the sample as it is the reliable way of finding the drug metabolites in the body. Moreover, it is inexpensive and conveniently collected.

The post Know About SAHMSA 5 And NIDA 5 Panel Drug Test Kits first appeared on BIG-TOPICS.COM.

Drinking alcohol is known to cause serious health effects. However, it has become a common habit among teens, adults and even senior citizens. Many parties arranged at various places provide alcohol. However, it is not recommended to consume it in excess amounts. Harmful drinking is a situation which considers use of alcohol level that is toxic or harmful to your body.

Drinking alcohol regularly and occasionally has different effects. Though consuming alcohol is not good for health, you may not face serious problems with occasional drinking. However, taking alcohol regularly can affect you a lot. It is suggested that an adult women should not take more than one drink per day and an adult man should not have more than 2 drinks a day. Regular drinking above these recommended levels of safe drinking can increase the chances of risk of dangerous consequences associated with alcohol.

There are many risks with harmful drinking. It causes hangovers which influences people to perform less in college or workplace. It leads to decreased inhibitions. Driving under the influence of alcohol is very much common and is one of the serious factors causing fatal accidents. Blood alcohol concentration of about 0.08 percent is considered as the legal limit. Drunk driving with blood alcohol concentration more than this legal limit can end up in many other legal issues. Heavy drinkers may also be involved in crime related activities.

Regular alcohol users tend to make poor decisions and they often end up in dangerous situations. Harmful drinking also causes both physical and mental health dangers. In addition, using alcohol at such harmful levels leads to chemical addiction. Hence, it should be ensured that you do not consume taking alcohol at or above harmful levels.

Illicit drug usage has become common in the United States. Among many different kinds of illegal drugs, heroin is one. It is important to know about the features and effects of heroin addiction to avoid its use and protect yourself and your kids. Heroin is a powerful drug which is physically and emotionally addictive.

Heroin affects the central nervous system of the body immediately after its use. It has both short-term and long-term health effects. Warm flushed skin, weakness in muscles, euphoria, dry mouth, dizziness, constricted pupils, severe itching, slowed breathing, nausea or vomiting, and drowsiness are some of the short-term effects of heroin. However, when the occasional or habitual use of heroin turns to addiction, it leads to certain long-term health effects including infection of heart lining and valves, liver diseases, kidney diseases, pulmonary complications, skin infections, etc. Using unsafe needles for drug induction can result in infectious diseases such as hepatitis, HIV/AIDS.

Heroin addiction not only causes serious health effects but also causes certain financial, emotional and family issues. As the addicted people spend most of their money on buying the drug, they face financial problems. They spend all their life savings, try to steal money from friends and family, etc. This may result in many emotional consequences such as loss of friends or family members. Certain psychological issues like aggression, depression, anxiety, etc. are also seen with heroin addiction. Overdose of heroin may cause breathing problems, muscle spasms, weak pulse and may even cause sudden deaths. It is much better to detect the drug abuse problem at early stage to avoid the further health damages and also other unwanted consequences.

Heroin, most harmful drug is derived from morphine, which is made from poppy seeds. It looks either in white or brown powder. It acts as a depressant acting on the pleasure points of the brain and increases its ability to perceive pain. Due to its powdered form it is very easy to mix some other substances to increase its quantity. It can be weakened with any thing from talcum powder to strychnine. Heroin can be administered in any form like smoking, injecting, and snorting. What ever, the way may be, it effects are one and the same. Different methods are used only in order to get its pleasure more quicker and in more heavier way.

Coming to the physical signs that can be found in heroin addicted people, they are as follows:

At initial stages they tend to go out and spend more time outside.

They don’t bother about their appearance and don’t care about their dressing and make up.

You can find some needle marks on their arms or on other parts of their body.

Eating habits change and they will face decrease in appetite.

Their body weight will suddenly increase or they may loose weight all of a sudden.

You can notice their hands and legs shaking and becoming frequently sweaty.

Their face becomes puffy and their pupils get dilated.

Their eyes become red.

You can even smell something on their breath or on their clothing.

At times they even stagger and become lazy, and sometimes they are hyper active.

Their skin color changes becoming more pale.

They either stay alone, don’t even try to talk a single word or else they talk non stop.

It is not like every person who have all these effects are drug addicts. You have to check whether these things are found in the person and confirm them by asking that person or his friends about drug addiction.

Ecstasy is a not so addictive drug when compared to other drugs like cocaine and heroin. But still it will show some adverse effects when consumed. The effects are harmful and will continue for a longer period of time. The effect of Ecstasy might vary from one person to other depending upon the amount consumed and the period of consumption. After swallowing the drug, the full effect is felt within one hour and last for many hours.

The after consumption effects of Ecstasy starts with a little tingling and rushes of exhilaration. Some abusers may also experience nausea and dizziness, which passes away quickly. Perception of colors and sounds will be more intense under the influence of this drug. Overdose of ecstasy results in high blood pressures, faintness, panic attacks and in more severe cases it results in loss of consciousness, rise in body temperature, heart failure or extreme heart stroke.

The effects caused by Ecstasy are more similar to the effects of cocaine and amphetamines. The long term effects of Ecstasy are also considered as major problems. According to the research report published in The Journal of the Neuroscience, Ecstasy causes long lasting damage to the brain cells which are essential for memory and critical thinking. People who take Ecstasy, even for few times are proved to have permanent problems with learning and memory.

The other side effects of Ecstasy include confusion, depression, insomnia, amnesia, hallucinations, paranoia, and panic attacks. The persons using this drug for a long time also suffer from dehydration, hypertension, hypothermia, heart failure and kidney failure.

Aren’t these effects enough for giving away that dreadful drug. Not only Ecstasy every drug is harmful to some or the other part of our body. So, it is better to be away from these things.

Providing treatment for a drug addict is a continuous process and it depends on the type and the amount of the drug the addicts body can sustain. There are many ways of treating a drug addict, in all these cases family members plays an important role in the successful treatment.

Intervention:
If there is a drug addict in the family and he is not willing to take treatment, it is the duty of the other family members to intervene and strongly recommend drug addiction treatment. The family needs to be strong and encouraging in their intervention.

Support:
When an addict enters in to the treatment process it becomes difficult for him to live with out taking drugs, in such situations he needs support from the family. Consistent support and understanding should be provided by the family members.

Encouragement:
Encouragement from the family should be there throughout the entire process of drug treatment and they should assure the addict that he can recover completely and that life will be better for him when it gets completed.

Environment:
During the treatment and also after completion of the treatment the family members should provide safe environment which should be free of drugs, alcohol, stress and anything that triggers the addiction. If safe environment is not provided the treatment process may be unsuccessful.

Strength:
After the completion of the treatment the family will need to stay strong for the former drug addict. The family members need to make the abuser know that they will not tolerate continued drug use and they will intervene again if necessary.

Family members play a vital role in foregoing the addiction of the drug abuser. They have to become the strength of the abuser, while he is struggling from withdrawing drug addiction.

The post Role of Family Members in Treatment of Drug Addiction first appeared on BIG-TOPICS.COM.

Drugs are the chemicals, which have susceptible impact on neuro-chemical balance of human brain that effects feelings and actions of an individual. Abusing drugs often or regularly leads to addiction. Although there is no particular age limit for drug addiction, earlier abuse causes more serious drug addiction.

Reasons for addiction
Every abuser has a different reason for drug abuse or addiction. Mostly to escape from problems, people abuse drugs, and become addicted. Many factors influence the individuals like social environment, person’s biology, and age. Family, friends, life style of individual contribute to drug abuse. Critical stages of life along with genetic, and environmental factors also affect drug addiction susceptibility.

Effects of addiction
Complications of drug addiction are very high and it is like a disease that affects brain, and total functioning of the body. Brain’s communication system is affected with the chemicals present in drugs as they disrupt the process of information flow to nerve cells. Short and long term effects are seen in the abuse due to drug addiction.

Short term: The chemicals present in the drugs will blow into the brain’s communication system. These chemicals can disturb the functioning of the “reward circuit” of the brain. Many short-term consequences are observed in abuser’s health and avoiding drug abuse can help in overcoming the short-term consequences. Sleeplessness, irritability, anxiety, running nose, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, depression, headache, dizziness, effects on memory and respiratory problems etc are found with short term drug addiction.

Long term: Serious long-term effects are found with drug abuse and addiction changes brain chemical system and circuit. These effects can lead from mild itching to coma and to death of the drug abuser. This addiction facilitates the user in experiencing uncontrollable cravings particularly when they see place or person associated with drug. High drug addiction can lead for infectious diseases, breathing related diseases, veins, or nervous collapse, and abuser can even die in minutes in certain situations.

The above addressed information about reasons and effects of drug abuse and addiction can be useful in preventing drug abuse. Prevention programs and educating the people about effects can be helpful in preventing drug abuse and addiction in society. If it is not controlled at right time, these drugs can become masters of abuser’s life. The consequences of addiction of drug can be overwhelming to both the user and to the user’s family members.

The three swimmers of India have failed in the doping test conducted by National Anti Doping Agency(NADA). Among three swimmers, two swimmers Richa Mishra and Jyostana Pansare part of the Indian Games Squad for the Common Wealth Games.

The other person is Muralidharan, this is the second time he has been held in doping. Swimming Federation of India is planning to suspend them because of doping.

Drug cultivation is the first phase of drugs production. Drug was mainly developed to use in medication but as time goes by it gets used as addition purpose. Hence, drugs market is growing rapidly to fulfill the demand of addicts. They first cultivate it and then they sell it to drugs market.

Today’s, illegal drugs cultivation is growing very rapidly. According to the report, traffickers are expanding outdoor cultivation operations towards United States. It is because these areas are less subjected to law enforcement scrutiny problems. Since 1999, Mexican DTOs are cultivating drugs in California, Washington, and Oregon areas.

Asian traffickers are also expanding the number of indoor grow sites. Majorly U.S-based and Canada-based Asian groups are involved in large-scale indoor cultivation. Within the past decade, these groups have expanded to numerous states like Texas, New England states. They move to these areas because it helps to avoid law enforcement detection and to gain better access to drug markets.

Cuban traffickers are the major cultivator of Marijuana in the Southeast Region but these sites are smaller than Asian-operated sites. Earlier Cannabis cultivations by Cuban traffickers were done in southern Florida but to increase potential drug market it shifted to northern Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina.

Thus, illegal drugs cultivation is increasing year by year. Mexico DTOs are the major producers of drugs compared to other DTOs. High demand of Drugs in U.S and other parts of the world lead to these expansion in drugs cultivation.

The post DTOs Expansion Over Drug Cultivation first appeared on BIG-TOPICS.COM.

Drug trafficking organizations (DTOs) are the complex organizations which have highly defined command-and-control structures that can produce, transport, and distribute large quantities of illicit drugs to any region of country. In earlier period of time Columbian DTOs were the leading suppliers of drugs like cocaine and heroin but as time went on it was influenced by Mexican DTOs.

Low production of drugs especially Cocaine and tight grip of law enforcement in these areas were the main reason for the Columbian DTOs declination. When Columbian DTOs were diminished then Mexican DTOs expanded their presence by increasing their transportation and distribution networks directly to Dominican drug distributors. Previously cocaine and heroin were distributed by Colombian DTOs.

The alliance between Mexican and Dominican DTOs expanded the midlevel and retail drug distribution networks, mainly in the Mid-Atlantic, Great Lakes and Southwest region. A well establishment of multiple sources enabled Dominican DTOs to sale drugs at lower costs with large profit margins.

Mexican DTOs expansion also affected the Italian Organized Crime (IOC) groups smuggling. In 2008, drug trafficking by IOC in eastern states was increasing but in 2009 no similar drug smuggling cases were noticed.

Hence, it is clear that Mexican DTOs are expanding very rapidly in Drugs smuggling market. This is the only one group which works in every region of the country and till 2009, there are 900,000 active gang members who work for Mexican DTOs.

The post Influence Of Mexican DTOs Over Columbian DTOs first appeared on BIG-TOPICS.COM.

Drugs are introduced for medication such that helpless and ill people will get served easily and properly but it continues to overdose and serious abuse trend. Mexico and U.S are widely affected by Drugs problem. Huge amount of drugs first get cultivated in Mexico and then smuggled to U.S market. Selling, buying and addiction are illegal in any country.

But in 2010 U.S government permitted medical marijuana and California legalized cannabis sales to adults. With this law Mexico got bristle and said that this new amendment of law will undercuts the battle against Mexico’s violent drug cartels. According to Mexico Secretary of the Interior Fernando Gomez Mont this new law is worrisome and complicates efforts to resolve Mexico’s soaring drug-related violence.

According to U.S official, law enforcement authorities will keep close tabs on medical marijuana dispensaries where such sales are permitted. They don’t believe that the rising number of states which allow the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes can make marijuana smuggling into the U.S. from Mexico. They also said that they didn’t change the law and they amended this law to get a effective benefit in medical field.

This law has different opinion with different countries but finally what will result, only time can say in a better way.

The post Mexico Opposes Marijuana Law Imposed By U.S first appeared on BIG-TOPICS.COM.

Smuggling means transportation of illegal goods from one place to another place. Smuggling can be done through many routes and maritime route is one of them. Very less amount of drugs are smuggled through this route. Private maritime vessels is a common method to move illegal drugs into the United States

Drugs are smuggled to U.S market mainly through Rico, South Florida, South Texas, and Southern California. Smugglers smuggle drugs by maritime means to avoid law enforcement security. Caribbean-based traffickers who exploit Puerto Rico and Florida coastlines are the major maritime smugglers. They mostly smuggle cocaine, heroin, and marijuana from the Bahamas to areas of South Florida.

Incidents like packages of cocaine and marijuana found along South Texas coastline and recovery of 114 kilograms cocaine showed that smugglers are using maritime routes to smuggle. In 2009, smugglers introduced a new way to smuggle via maritime routes. They started to smuggle illicit drugs by commercial maritime vessel. It is a viable passage for smuggling drugs directly into US. According to law enforcement report, this smuggling method continues to be a small portion of the nation’s illicit drug supply.

Commercial maritime seizure data for 2004 through 2009 states that Cocaine and Marijuana are mostly smuggled by commercial maritime vessels. This method is mainly practiced in Caribbean locations like Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Jamaica, and New Jersey. Law enforcement reports confirm that Caribbean and South American traffickers use commercial maritime vessels more than Mexican traffickers.

Despite the law enforcement, smuggling is being perused in U.S. Year after year, new methods are introduced by the smuggler. The drug smuggling problem mostly affects Mexico and U.S.

An U.S. officials said that the declining of the baby boom generation is leading to a powerful increase in levels of illicit drug use in adults who are more than 50 and older.

Pamela S. Hyde, official of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration said that with increasing cases, there will be a need to double the substance abuse treatment services required for present population by 2020.

The report, “Illicit Drug Use among Older Adults,” found that there are nearly 4.3 million adults of age more than 50 , or 4.7 percent, who took an illicit drug in the previous year.

Every day nearly 2,500 youths between age 12 to 17 abuse a pain reliever for the first time, according to the Parents. Most of the teens abuse prescription drugs than illicit drug other than marijuana. In 2008, there are more than 2.1 million teens of age 12 to 17 reported taking prescription drugs. For the age group 12- and 13-year, prescription drugs are the drug of preference.

As prescription drugs can be easily obtained, children easily gets abused to them. There are many serious health risks associated with abuse of prescription or over-the-counter drugs.

The abuse of OTC cough and cold medicines can result in blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, coma and even death. Most of the teens report combining prescription drugs, OTC drugs and alcohol. When these drugs are combined and used, it can result in respiratory failure and death.

Prescription and OTC drug abuse is very addictive. Between 1995 and 2005, treatment access for prescription painkillers was raised to more than 300 percent in the United States.

The best method for parents to avoid abuse of these drugs is to make their children understand they refuse such drug abuse and educate them on the effects it causes, like jail time and probation because abusing drugs which are not prescribed to them is regarded as a crime. Parents should also carefully remove unused drugs or lock the cupboards in which they are present. Most of the parents will not like the concept of locking cupboards as if they do not believe their children, it is better than making those same children to get addicted to these drugs.

Therefore studying the alcohol or drug abuse and addiction is very important. Alcohol or other drug abusers need to be detected and counseled to come out of addiction.

Teens who start abusing drugs often struggle with poor academics and generally drop out of the school. Many risks like unplanned pregnancies, violence, infectious diseases and harmful health effects are associated with teen drug abuse.

Adult drug addicts often have problems remembering, and paying attention. Their work performance and social relationships will suffer due to their drug abuse.
